Avian Sun 5.0 UVB Compact Fluorescent

The Avian SunTM 5.0 UVB Compact Fluorescent provides birds with safe levels of beneficial UVB and UVA for physical and mental health. UVB allows birds to synthesize vitamin D3 for proper calcium metabolism, which is necessary for normal growth, maintenance of healthy bones, and egg production. UVA is visible to birds, allowing them to recognize mates, find food, and identify different species. Without UVA, birds are essentially color blind! The lamp should be mounted 18-20” (46-51cm) from the bird.

The recommended distance refers to the distance from the lamp to your bird’s perch. The lamp should be placed directly above your bird’s head. DO NOT place the lamp on the side of a cage, causing your bird to stare into the lamp. WARNING: DO NOT place the lamp closer to your bird than the recommended distances listed above as eye damage may occur. WHEN TO REPLACE YOUR LAMP: Your lamp will provide beneficial UVA and UVB rays for a period of 12 months.

After 12 months, the lamp should be replaced with a new AvianSun 5.0 UVB compact fluorescent lamp. Before turning on your lamp for the first time, put a date on the base of the lamp to remind yourself when to change it. Heating lamp tempering: Before turning on the heating lamp, it is necessary to temper it, especially during the cold months. When changing from low temperature to direct heat, there is a risk of thermal shock and damage to the glass or heating element. Let the lamp stand at room temperature for at least 30 minutes, after tempering you can turn it on. This ensures a longer lamp life and safe operation.
